This policy explains how Check Engine ("the app"), operated by Gav's Customs, handles your information. It applies to the mobile app and the web app.
Voice input: when you tap the mic and describe a problem, your speech is converted to text so it can be diagnosed.
Vehicle details: the year, make, and model you enter to get answers specific to your car.
Your questions and the diagnoses returned, so a conversation can continue in context.
Your diagnosis history, tools and parts lists, and your chosen mechanic voice. These are saved on your device only so you can look back at past repairs.
Basic app usage such as how many diagnoses you have run in a day and how many days in a row you have opened the app. This is how free daily limits are counted and how the app greets you.
We do not ask for or store your name, address, phone number, VIN, license plate, or location. We do not sell your data to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising.
Your question and vehicle details are sent to our diagnostic service, which uses the Anthropic Claude API to produce a plain-English answer. The answer text is then sent to ElevenLabs so your chosen mechanic can speak it aloud. Both are used only to answer you. We do not use your conversations to build advertising profiles.
Speech is transcribed to text and the text is what gets diagnosed. Audio is not retained after transcription.
Check Engine Pro and Check Engine Shop are handled by Apple and by RevenueCat, our subscription provider. We never see or store your card number. Apple's own privacy policy governs your purchase.
Anthropic (Claude API) for diagnosis. ElevenLabs to turn the answer into speech — only the text of the reply is sent, so your chosen mechanic can say it aloud. RevenueCat and Apple for subscriptions. The NHTSA public recall database for safety recall lookups — only the year, make, and model you entered is sent, never a VIN or anything identifying. Each handles data under its own policy.
Your vehicles, diagnosis history, tools and parts lists, voice choice, and usage counts are stored on your device. We do not have accounts and we do not upload them. Deleting the app removes them.
You can delete your vehicle profiles in the app at any time. You can cancel a subscription in your Apple Account settings. To request deletion of anything associated with you, email gavscustoms.wa@gmail.com.
Check Engine is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and note it in the app.
